“Reefs: Our Treasure Beneath the Waves” This four-part documentary series takes us on a journey to explore the coral reefs off the coast of El Salvador. This underwater paradise is vital for preserving marine biodiversity, mitigating risks from natural disasters, and ensuring food security for local communities.
The four-part series reveals the majestic reef ecosystems that lie on the seabed off the Salvadoran coast, especially at Los Cóbanos beach in the department of Sonsonate Oeste; and Maculís beach in the department of La Unión Sur.
The chapters highlight both the beauty of these ecological niches and their importance to local communities. Due to alterations caused by climate change, coral reefs face significant conservation challenges that must be brought to the public's attention to spark an awareness process, beginning with understanding the invaluable ecosystems that lie beneath the waves of our coasts.
